On July 4, 2015, ACO/ACI George rescued Bruiser from obvious signs of abuse, neglect, and abandonment. George's wife, Barbara, set up a GoFundMe site for the extensive care and surgery Bruiser required. In less than a week, they were able to raise enough funds to cover the cost of double eye surgery, insulin, antibiotics, and many other needs. With additional assistance from the non-profit organization Bordentown City Cats and Columbus Central Veterinary Hospital, Bruiser was getting another chance at life. George and Barbara cared for Bruiser while trying to find a family willing to give him a fur-ever home. After several months of searching for a new home for Bruiser, George and Barbara had fallen in love with him and he had fallen in love with them. So their home became his home! Over the next couple years, Bruiser gained many fans in his home state of NJ and his story has been featured in several local newspapers. He now has a website, Instagram account, Facebook page, and even a children's picture book! Proceeds from the book sales go towards the care of Bruiser as well as other special needs animals like him.
